FESTIVAL OF WORLD MUSIC AT TIGUĻI HILL
The open-air Festival of World Music at Tiguļi Hill was first organized by the popular Latvian composer Raimonds Tiguls seven years ago. This musical celebration is the manifestation of one artist's will and worldview, gathering the listeners not just from the event's closest neighbourhood, the Northern Kurzeme region, but from across Latvia and other countries as well. Annually on the first Saturday in June, the composer's friends and colleagues, musicians and performers get together on Tiguļi Hill, the highest of the nine hills of Talsi town. Their collaborative projects reflect the variety of Raimonds Tiguls' creativity and the traditional sounds and notions of Latvian culture, nature, people and lifestyle. This summer, chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga and conductor Normunds Šnē will join the magical ambience along with the vocal group Schola Cantorum Riga performing Gregorian chants. The concert programme includes music by Raimonds Tiguls and Pēteris Vasks.
