FESTIVE CONCERT OF THE INDEPENDENCE DAY OF LATVIA
When the veil of November mist lowers over the carmine of the setting sun, turning the sky red and white, it's time to dress up for the celebration of the Proclamation Day of Latvia.
Keeping up with the tradition, Sinfonietta Rīga musicians will leave the capital Riga for a more remote municipality, parish or town to confess their love to Latvia together with the people there. On Latvia's Centenary, the music will resound by the banks of river Daugava at the Krustpils Culture Centre, as well as across the border in our neighbouring Estonia, Tallinn House of the Blackheads.
The programme of the celebratory concert suits the occasion - part contemplative, part playful, but certainly filled with joy. There is a place in it for pan-European golden standards, represented by long-standing "collaborator" of chamber orchestras, legendary Austrian classicist Joseph Haydn. The Estonian juniper-island-dwelling hermit Erkki-Sven Tüür illuminates the way for all those who search for beauty and truth with his composition "Lighthouse". The gentle flow of Emīls Dārziņš's "Melancholic Waltz" will remind of the aching and tenderness in the echo of a dark forest. And the erudite jokester Pēteris Plakidis will not let us forget that Latvians do have a sense of humor. For the performance of his brilliant musical remark "One More Weber Opera" the orchestra will be joined by clarinetist Ints Dālderis.
