THREE OSOKINS | JURMALA FESTIVAL
Sergey Osokin and his sons - Andrey and Georgy - three exquisite pianists from one dynasty, who entered the world music arena with their unique piano play. The three Osokins are united by the revelation of deep, creative and virtuoso musical compositions. Each touch of the keys is thoughtful, heartfelt and transformed into subtle sound vibrations that reach listeners and reveal the nuanced sound of music. All three musicians of the Osokin dynasty have received the Great Music Award - the highest award in the Latvian music industry. The Osokins have performed in Dzintari Concert Hall, the Latvian National Opera, as well as the other biggest Latvian concert halls. The "Three Osokins" concert was broadcast on the German internet television channel “Klassik.TV”. In 2018, the first Three Osokins studio album “Trīs Osokini latviešu klaviermūzikā” (Three Osokins in Latvian piano music) was released, dedicated to Latvia’s centenary.
ABOUT THE PERFORMERS:
Doctor of Arts, professor Sergey Osokin, is one of the cornerstones of Latvian contemporary pianism. The pianist actively performs and teaches master classes in Latvia, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Poland, Sweden and Belarus. Sergey Osokin is the recipient of the highest award of the Republic of Latvia - the Order of the Three Stars. The pianist's repertoire includes pieces of various styles and ages, but he feels especially close to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Robert Schuman, Alexander Scriabin and Alfred Schnittke. Critics value his interpretations as deep, colourful and exquisite. Sergey Osokin received the Latvian Grand Music Award for his performance of the Second Piano Concert by Johannes Brahms. Sergey Osokin is not only an excellent pianist, but also a talented teacher, who has trained the most successful and well known young Latvian pianists - Elīna Bērtiņa, Andrey Osokin, Vestards Šimkus, Georgy Osokin, Aurēlija Šimkus, Katrīna Guapalo, Arta Arnicāne and Rihards Plešanovs.
Andrey Osokin is the winner of several important international pianist competitions - Arthur Rubinstein's competition in Tel Aviv, Marguerite Long and Jacques Thibaud's competition in Paris, Leeds competition, Queen Elisabeth's competition in Brussels and the International Piano Forum. According to the critics of London's newspaper "The Independent", the pianist has a "hypnotising attractiveness of personality, a broad and expressive palette of sound colours, as well as an unusually compelling sense of different music styles". Andrey regularly performs in legendary concert halls across Europe, such as the Berliner Philharmonie, Konzerthaus Berlin, Alte Oper Frankfurt, La Verdi Hall in Milan, the Dublin National Concert Hall in Ireland, Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, St Martin in the Fields and Kings Place Concert Hall in London, Gasteig Concert Hall in Munich, La Monnaie Concert Hall in Brussels, Opera Comique Hall in Paris and Birmingham Symphony Hall. He has collaborated with the National Symphony Orchestra of Belgium, Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France, Kamerata Baltica Orchestra, Manchester's Hallé-Orchestra, Dublin's National Symphony Orchestra and the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra; conductors - Sir Mark Elder, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Marin Alsop, Yuri Simonov, Boian Videnoff, Pablo Mielgo, Andris Poga, Ainārs Rubiķis, James Judd, as well as the opera diva Marina Rebeka. In 2018, Andrey Osokin was granted Associate Membership Status (ARAM) at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
Georgy Osokin has performed at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre Hall, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra Hall in Katowice, Fine Arts Theatre in Vancouver, replacing the world-famous pianist Nelson Freire, Konzerthaus Berlin, Zaryadye Concert Hall in Moscow, Saint Petersburg Philharmony, Birmingham's Town Hall and Elbphilharmonie Hamburg. He has collaborated with Amadeus Chamber Orchestra, Taiwan Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo New City Orchestra and Sinfonietta Cracovia. After the final of the International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2015, Georgy became a sensation, earning such epithets from critics as "outstanding, unpredictable and revolutionary". "Georgy possesses a rare talent for interpreting F. Chopin's music," says Sergei Babayan, the famous pianist and professor. In May 2018, Gidon Kremer announced that Georgy had become a permanent guest artist of the Kremerata Baltica Orchestra - along with Lucas Debargue, he was the first artist to receive this title from the orchestra in its 22 year history. Georgy often performs with Gidon Kremer in Latvia, Great Britain, Russia, Poland, Japan, South Korea, Germany and the USA.
