SINFONIETTA RĪGA AND ALEXANDRE DOISY | 10TH INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL SAXOPHONIA
In February, the winter's monotony will be interrupted by the cheerful sounds of saxophone with the festival Saxophonia, biennially bringing the greatest masters of the instrument to Latvia. French saxophone virtuoso Alexandre Doisy, the laureate of the Adolphe Sax International Competition, will handle the poetic Ballade by Swiss composer Frank Martin; young Latvian saxophonist Katrīna Kivliniece will remind us about the brilliant Concerto for Saxophone by Ģederts Ramans that once brought success to legendary Alnis Zaķis; and the Vilnius-born professor of the Latvian Academy of Music, Arvydas Kazlauskas, will bring to our attention a new piece by Lithuanian Juste Janulyte. The final notes of the concert have been prepared by ambient composer Rihards Zaļupe in his new piece for saxophone quartet, chamber orchestra and electronics.
