Jörg Widmann and Sinfonietta Riga
Multifacetedness is Jörg Widmann's forte. Likened to classical genius Mozart and lyrical romanticist Schubert, Widmann lives and breathes music. He performs with the world’s greatest orchestras and chamber musicians, is an inspirational teacher to his students and brilliant when taking upon the role of conductor. Widmann’s enchanting clarinet performance captivates the audiences with exuberant musicality and singularly genuine lightness. His intricate compositions are included in concert programmes by world’s leading conductors, such as Nelsons, Järvi, and Rattle. Widmann’s original works have a magnetic effect on the listeners, resonating deeply within one’s soul, like his own breath resonates within the clarinet, creating sounds that cajole and mesmerize. Since the first meeting of Widmann and Sinfonietta Rīga in 2014, the multitalented musician has visited Latvia several times, but this time will be unlike any before, as the charismatic Bavarian takes on the role of the orchestra’s creative partner. The concert programme, dedicated to the music of Mendelssohn and Widmann, will also provide an eagerly awaited rendezvous with German cultural scene expert, Latvian soprano Inga Kalna.
