Ineta Abakuka

Viola

Ineta Abakuka was born and raised in Rīga. At the age of eight she finally got her first violin after beseeching her mom, and began her path in the world of music. Her first steps in it took her to Pāvils Jurjāns and Emīls Dārziņš music schools, followed by studies in Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, where the young musician exchanged her violin for viola, preferring the latter’s mellow timbre. She received her Masters degree under Professor Arigo Štrāls, and a few years later got another Masters degree in chamber ensemble specialty under Professor Aldis Liepiņš.

Ineta has polished her musical talent and stage performance by participating in international orchestral projects (Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, Bach-Collegium Stuttgart, Orkester Norden) and various workshops, festivals and contests. Among her highest achievements is the 2nd Prize in the First International Shostakovich Chamber Music Competition in Moscow, Russia in 2008.

Ineta Abakuka has been a member of State Chamber Orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga since its establishment. Besides her work as an orchestra musician she is a teacher of the string quartet class in Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. In addition, she performs with Spīķeru String Quartet, the Fantasic Four Quartet and often collaborates with guitarist Kaspars Zemītis. She is always keen on participating in different chamber music projects.

In her spare time Ineta enjoys active recreation in nature with her children and baking.
